Terms of Service

FishHub is an information and discovery platform for the aquarium hobby. We help you discover aquatic livestock, compare shops, plan your aquarium, and stay informed about stock and pricing — all in one place.

When you create a FishHub account:

• You must provide accurate, current information.
• Your account is personal and non-transferable — one account per person.
• Your username is a public identifier visible to other users.
• You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
• You must be at least 18 years old, or have parental/guardian consent.

We may suspend or terminate accounts for providing false information, abusive behaviour, fraud, or violation of these Terms. If we take action on your account, we will tell you why.

Your membership determines which features you can access on FishHub. Higher-tier memberships include everything from lower tiers, plus additional capabilities. Your access to features depends on maintaining an active subscription.

Annual plans receive a 10% discount. All prices are in South African Rand (ZAR).

Free Trial

New users receive a 7-day free trial at the Enthusiast tier. At the end of the trial, your account reverts to the Free tier unless you subscribe. No charges occur during the trial. The trial is available once per user.

What We Promise

• We clearly show what each tier includes before you subscribe.
• We do not imply that paid tiers guarantee better outcomes.
• We do not promise specific future features.

We are always improving FishHub. Sometimes that means adjusting which features are available at each tier, or introducing new limits. Here is how we handle changes:

What we may do:

• Add new features to any tier
• Adjust existing limits or introduce new ones
• Move features between tiers (with notice)
• Change subscription pricing (effective at your next billing cycle)

What we promise:

• No silent data deletion — we will never delete your content without telling you.
• Fair over-limit handling — if a change makes your content exceed a new limit, it will be preserved but may become inactive (hidden from public view) until you adjust.
• Transparency — we will notify you via email and/or in-app notification before changes that affect your plan take effect.
• Reasonable notice — at least 14 days for changes that reduce features in a paid tier.
• No retroactive punishment — changes apply going forward.

When downgrades happen:

• You cancel — access continues until the end of your billing period, then reverts.
• Trial ends — reverts to Free tier immediately.
• Payment fails — you get a 72-hour grace period with full access. If not resolved, you are downgraded to Free.

Feature access (like advanced compatibility, the simulator, or push alerts) is disabled when you move to a tier that does not include them.

Every shop and breeder on FishHub operates independently. FishHub does not employ, endorse, or control these sellers. We provide a directory — not a storefront.

• Shops are responsible for the accuracy of their listings, prices, and stock information.
• FishHub does not verify species identification, health, or conditions.
• Always confirm details directly with the seller before purchasing.
• FishHub is not liable for disputes between buyers and sellers.

Search Ranking Transparency

Search results are influenced by relevance, listing freshness, and shop activity. Some shops on higher-tier plans may receive priority placement in search results. Promoted or prioritised listings are always clearly labeled so you can distinguish them from organic results. We never disguise paid placements as organic results.

• Compatibility scores are estimates based on general species data (water parameters, temperament, tank size).
• The tank-change simulator is a planning tool — results are projections, not guarantees.
• Recommendations are suggestions based on your tank profile, not professional advice.
• Real-world compatibility depends on many factors we cannot account for.

Alerts are informational notifications designed to keep you informed. They do not guarantee that a listing is still available or that a price has not changed since the alert was generated.

• Alert delivery times may vary depending on system load and your tier.
• Higher tiers receive alerts with higher delivery priority.
• Push notifications depend on your device settings and connectivity.
• You can manage your notification preferences in your dashboard.
• You can opt out of email notifications at any time.

• Payments are processed through PayFast, a licensed South African payment gateway.
• FishHub does not store your credit card numbers or banking details directly.
• All prices are in South African Rand (ZAR).
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date.
• Your renewal date is visible in your account dashboard.

Refunds

• You may cancel at any time. Access continues until the end of your billing period.
• Within 48 hours of your first subscription: full refund available on request.
• After 48 hours or mid-cycle: no refund for partial periods; access continues until end of cycle.
• Annual plans: pro-rata refund may be considered within the first 30 days, on a case-by-case basis.

Price Changes

We may change subscription prices with at least 30 days' notice. Price changes take effect at your next billing cycle after the notice period.

• We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or any third party.
• We collect only what we need to provide and improve our service.
• You have rights under POPIA to access, correct, and delete your data.
• We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information.

We reserve the right to remove content or suspend accounts that violate these Terms. All enforcement actions are:

• Justified — based on a stated reason
• Proportional — matching the severity of the issue
• Communicated — you will be informed of the action and reason

You must not:

• List species prohibited by South African law
• Post misleading claims about livestock health or condition
• Engage in fake reviews or rating manipulation
• Use automated tools to scrape or abuse the platform
• Circumvent tier limits through multiple accounts
• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users

We do not punish users without reason. If we take action on your account, we will tell you why and give you a fair chance to respond.

FishHub is operated from South Africa. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

If you access FishHub from outside South Africa, you are responsible for compliance with your local laws. We make no representation that FishHub or its content is appropriate or available for use outside South Africa.

We do our best to keep FishHub accurate and reliable, but we cannot guarantee perfect results. FishHub is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

• We are not liable for decisions you make based on information from FishHub.
• We are not liable for the actions, products, or services of third-party shops or breeders.
• We are not liable for losses resulting from service interruptions, data delays, or system errors.
• Our total liability to you, in any case, is limited to the amount you paid to FishHub in the 12 months preceding your claim.

You are responsible for your own fishkeeping decisions. We recommend consulting specialists for health-related concerns.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make meaningful changes, we will notify you via email and/or in-app notification at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of FishHub after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
