About This Species
The Bullseye Snakehead is a large, powerful predatory fish native to South and Southeast Asia, named for the distinctive ocellus (eye-spot) on its caudal peduncle. It is a supreme ambush predator with an elongated, serpentine body, a flattened head packed with sharp teeth, and an accessory breathing organ for atmospheric air. Bullseye Snakeheads are highly aggressive and territorial, readily consuming any fish that fits in their substantial mouth. They require expert-level care, robust filtration, and a very large, well-secured aquarium or indoor pond.
