What to know before you buy.
The African Pike is a fearsome predatory fish found across sub-Saharan Africa, including some South African river systems. Resembling a torpedo with teeth, it is an ambush predator that lurks among submerged vegetation and strikes at passing prey with explosive speed. Its elongated body, large mouth filled with sharp teeth, and powerful tail make it superbly adapted for its predatory lifestyle. Keeping this species may require permits from provincial nature conservation authorities.

Tank setup
A minimum 600L aquarium suits African Pike. Use robust décor and sight breaks so each fish can hold its own space.
Water parameters
Keep pH 6–7.5 and 22–28°C. Stable parameters matter more than chasing perfect numbers; acclimate new arrivals slowly.
Feeding
Carnivore. Feed small amounts it clears in a couple of minutes, and vary the diet.
Behaviour
Aggressive. Watch it at feeding time and at lights-out to see its real temperament in your tank.

Choose robust tankmates of similar size, and nothing small enough to be eaten. Add African Pike last so territories reset.
