About This Species
Clove Polyps are a beautiful 'soft coral' (a corallimorph) known for their individual, clove-shaped polyps that extend from a purple or red mat (stolon). Each polyp has feathery, star-like tentacles, often in shades of green, brown, or gold, which pulse and sway in the current. They are very peaceful and hardy, preferring low to moderate light and flow. They are a great beginner's coral. An interesting fact is that 'pulsing' Clove Polyps, a specific variety, will rhythmically open and close their polyps, though the exact reason is not fully understood.
