    Overview

What to know before you buy.

Clove Polyps are a beautiful 'soft coral' (a corallimorph) known for their individual, clove-shaped polyps that extend from a purple or red mat (stolon). Each polyp has feathery, star-like tentacles, often in shades of green, brown, or gold, which pulse and sway in the current. They are very peaceful and hardy, preferring low to moderate light and flow. They are a great beginner's coral. An interesting fact is that 'pulsing' Clove Polyps, a specific variety, will rhythmically open and close their polyps, though the exact reason is not fully understood.

    Tank setup

A minimum 40L aquarium suits Clove Polyps. Provide hiding spots and stable water — this species thrives in a well-filtered community setup.

    Water parameters

Keep pH 8.1–8.4 and 24–27°C. Stable parameters matter more than chasing perfect numbers — acclimate new arrivals slowly.

    Feeding

Clove Polyps is carnivore. Feed a varied diet appropriate for invertebrates — quality flakes, pellets, or frozen foods sized to the mouth.

    Behaviour

Clove Polyps is generally peaceful. Observe during feeding and at lights-out for true temperament.

    Tankmates

Pair with similarly sized peaceful tankmates in invertebrates. Avoid fin-nippers or species that outgrow this fish.

    Breeding

Breeding notes for Clove Polyps vary by line and water chemistry — ask your local shop about proven pairs in SA.

    Keeping invertebrates?

Invertebrates read water quality more sensitively than fish — condition and test rather than guess.
