About This Species
The Luzon Starfish is a unique starfish, typically bright red or orange, known for having multiple, unevenly-sized arms (often six or seven, but sometimes more). It is a scavenger and detritivore, grazing on microbial films on live rock. Like the Blue Linckia, it is incredibly sensitive to acclimation and water parameter shifts, making it very difficult to keep long-term. It is not considered reef-safe with caution, as it has been known to prey on corals and other sessile invertebrates when its preferred food source is scarce. Its most interesting trait is its method of asexual reproduction, where it 'drops' an arm, which then grows into a new, complete starfish.
