    Overview

What to know before you buy.

The Bubble Coral is a unique Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral known for its large, water-filled vesicles that resemble a cluster of bubbles. These 'bubbles' are extended during the day for photosynthesis and retract at night, revealing long, powerful sweeper tentacles. It is very aggressive and can sting and kill any nearby corals. It prefers low to moderate light and gentle flow. An interesting fact is that the 'bubbles' are not polyps themselves, but modified, water-filled tentacles. The actual feeding polyps are hidden underneath.

    Care guide

Everything you need to keep Bubble Coral healthy in a South African setup.

    Tank setup

A minimum 120L aquarium suits Bubble Coral. Use robust décor and sight breaks; territorial species need defined territories.

    Water parameters

Keep pH 8.1–8.4 and 24–27°C. Stable parameters matter more than chasing perfect numbers — acclimate new arrivals slowly.

    Feeding

Bubble Coral is carnivore. Feed a varied diet appropriate for invertebrates — quality flakes, pellets, or frozen foods sized to the mouth.

    Behaviour

Bubble Coral is generally aggressive. Observe during feeding and at lights-out for true temperament.

    Tankmates

Pair with similarly sized aggressive tankmates in invertebrates. Avoid fin-nippers or species that outgrow this fish.

    Breeding

Breeding notes for Bubble Coral vary by line and water chemistry — ask your local shop about proven pairs in SA.

    Keeping invertebrates?

Invertebrates read water quality more sensitively than fish — condition and test rather than guess.
