About This Species
The Bubble Coral is a unique Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral known for its large, water-filled vesicles that resemble a cluster of bubbles. These 'bubbles' are extended during the day for photosynthesis and retract at night, revealing long, powerful sweeper tentacles. It is very aggressive and can sting and kill any nearby corals. It prefers low to moderate light and gentle flow. An interesting fact is that the 'bubbles' are not polyps themselves, but modified, water-filled tentacles. The actual feeding polyps are hidden underneath.
