    Shrimp keeping

    The difference between a colony that breeds and one that fades is usually parameters, not food — shrimp read water more closely than any fish.

    What actually helps

    1. Know your water before you stock: Neocaridina tolerate tap water ranges; Caridina need softer, more precise conditions.
    2. GH drives moulting — a failed moult is almost always a mineral problem, so dose minerals to a test result.
    3. Drip-acclimate newcomers over an hour or more; shrimp shock far more easily than fish.
    4. A sponge filter or shrimp-guarded intake prevents the most preventable death in the hobby: babies through a filter inlet.
