The Sharptooth Catfish, also known as the African Catfish or Barbel, is one of the most widespread and hardy freshwater fish in Africa. It is extremely adaptable, capable of breathing air and even surviving out of water for extended periods. While commonly farmed for food across Africa, it is also kept by monster fish enthusiasts for its impressive size and resilient nature. It is indigenous to South Africa and may require permits depending on the province.
