About This Species
Nassarius Snails are a crucial part of a 'clean-up crew,' specializing in sand bed maintenance. These small snails spend most of their time buried, but they possess a highly developed sense of smell. As soon as food hits the water, they erupt from the sand and swarm the area, consuming uneaten food, waste, and carrion, preventing it from decomposing. This behavior also helps aerate the top layer of the sand. They are completely reef-safe and a fascinating addition to any tank. Their long, snorkel-like siphon, which they stick up out of the sand to 'smell' the water, is one of their most unique features.
