About This Species
The Blue Knuckle Hermit Crab is a visually stunning invertebrate, featuring brilliant electric blue legs with black banding and bright orange antennae. It is an effective scavenger, feeding on detritus and some algae. It is generally considered 'reef-safe with caution.' While it typically leaves corals alone, it has a reputation for being more aggressive than other 'reef-safe' hermits, like the Scarlet or Blue-legged. It may attack snails for their shells or bother corals. It is a fantastic showpiece for a reef tank, provided it is well-fed and ample spare shells are available. Its bright orange antennae are constantly in motion, 'tasting' the water.
