About This Species
The Banded Brittle Star, or Zebra Brittle Star, is a fantastic and hardy scavenger for any reef tank. It has a small central disc and five long, slender arms, sharply banded in black and beige. It is a nocturnal detritivore that hides within the rockwork during the day, extending its arms at night to search for uneaten food and detritus. It is fast-moving and an incredibly efficient cleaner. It is entirely reef-safe and peaceful, though large specimens might opportunistically grab a tiny, sleeping fish. An interesting fact is that they can detach an arm to escape a predator, which they will later regenerate.
