    Overview

What to know before you buy.

Also known as the Red Tomato Crab, this species has a bright red-to-orange carapace and dark legs. Like Vampire Crabs, they are semi-terrestrial and need a paludarium with more land than water. They are social and best kept in groups with more females than males to minimize territorial disputes.

    Care guide

Everything you need to keep Red Devil Crab healthy in a South African setup.

    Tank setupWater parametersFeedingBehaviourTankmatesBreeding

    Tank setup

Size the aquarium to Red Devil Crab's adult size and activity level. Match décor to natural behaviour — plants, rockwork, or open swimming room as needed.

    Water parameters

Keep pH 7–8 and 22–26°C. Stable parameters matter more than chasing perfect numbers — acclimate new arrivals slowly.

    Feeding

Red Devil Crab is an omnivore. Feed a varied diet appropriate for invertebrates — quality flakes, pellets, or frozen foods sized to the mouth.

    Behaviour

Red Devil Crab is generally peaceful. Observe during feeding and at lights-out for true temperament.

    Tankmates

Pair with similarly sized peaceful tankmates in invertebrates. Avoid fin-nippers or species that outgrow this fish.

    Breeding

Breeding notes for Red Devil Crab vary by line and water chemistry — ask your local shop about proven pairs in SA.

    Keeping monster fish?

Big fish are big waste producers — oversized filtration and heavy-duty food carry the tank.
