Fine-grain black gravel for a natural, high-contrast substrate that makes fish colours and live plants pop. Smooth, rounded grains are safe for bottom-dwellers and won't damage the barbels on corydoras or loaches. Rinse thoroughly in a bucket until the runoff runs clear before adding to your tank - this removes dust that would otherwise cloud the water for days. A 1kg bag suits a nano tank or a thin accent layer; budget roughly 1kg per 10-15cm of tank length for a proper 2-3cm substrate depth.
