About This Species
The Green-Blue Chromis is a staple of the saltwater hobby, loved for its iridescent, electric blue-green color and peaceful (for a damselfish) demeanor. They are an active, shoaling species that should be kept in groups of at least 5-7. In the aquarium, they create a beautiful 'dither' effect, swimming actively in the water column and encouraging shyer fish to come out. They are reef-safe, hardy, and easy to feed. An interesting, though sometimes challenging, aspect of their behavior is their tendency to establish a pecking order, often leading to the 'alpha' fish bullying weaker individuals over time.
