    Overview

What to know before you buy.

The Black Storm Clownfish is a high-end designer variant of the Ocellaris Clownfish. It is prized for its dramatic coloration, featuring a deep black body with extensive, erratic white markings that resemble swirling storm clouds, often lacking any orange. Like all Ocellaris, they are hardy, easy to care for, and have a captivating, 'wiggling' swimming motion. They will readily host in a variety of anemones or even corals. They are generally peaceful but will defend their chosen territory. An interesting fact is that this morph was developed through selective breeding, highlighting the genetic plasticity within clownfish.

    Tank setup

A minimum 80L aquarium suits Black Storm Clownfish. Provide hiding spots and stable water — this species thrives in a well-filtered community setup.

    Water parameters

Keep pH 8.1–8.4 and 24–27°C. Stable parameters matter more than chasing perfect numbers — acclimate new arrivals slowly.

    Feeding

Black Storm Clownfish is omnivore. Feed a varied diet appropriate for saltwater fish — quality flakes, pellets, or frozen foods sized to the mouth.

    Behaviour

Black Storm Clownfish is generally peaceful. Observe during feeding and at lights-out for true temperament.

    Tankmates

Pair with similarly sized peaceful tankmates in saltwater fish. Avoid fin-nippers or species that outgrow this fish.

    Breeding

Breeding notes for Black Storm Clownfish vary by line and water chemistry — ask your local shop about proven pairs in SA.
