    Overview

What to know before you buy.

The Bicolor Blenny is a popular and entertaining fish with a distinct two-toned body: a dark, purplish-blue front half and a bright orange-yellow back half. They are full of personality, spending their time perching on rocks, peeking out of holes, and grazing on algae. They require a tank with mature live rock to provide both food and shelter. While peaceful towards most fish, they can be highly territorial and aggressive towards other blennies or fish with a similar body shape. A fascinating behavior is their 'perching,' where they use their modified pelvic fins to sit upright on surfaces, much like a person sitting on a stool.

    Tank setup

A minimum 120L aquarium suits Bicolor Blenny. Use robust décor and sight breaks; territorial species need defined territories.

    Water parameters

Keep pH 8.1–8.4 and 24–28°C. Stable parameters matter more than chasing perfect numbers — acclimate new arrivals slowly.

    Feeding

Bicolor Blenny is omnivore. Feed a varied diet appropriate for saltwater fish — quality flakes, pellets, or frozen foods sized to the mouth.

    Behaviour

Bicolor Blenny is generally territorial. Observe during feeding and at lights-out for true temperament.

    Tankmates

Pair with similarly sized territorial tankmates in saltwater fish. Avoid fin-nippers or species that outgrow this fish.

    Breeding

Breeding notes for Bicolor Blenny vary by line and water chemistry — ask your local shop about proven pairs in SA.
