Information you provide:

• Account details — email address, display name, username, password (stored securely hashed, never in plain text)
• Profile information — any additional information you choose to add to your profile
• Tank configurations — species, tank sizes, and parameters you set up
• Wishlists & alert preferences — species you are watching or interested in
• Shop/listing data — if you operate a shop: business name, listings, pricing, and stock information
• Communications — messages you send us through our contact form

Information collected automatically:

• Usage data — pages visited, features used, and interactions with the platform
• Device information — browser type, operating system, and device identifiers (for push notifications)
• IP address — for security and fraud prevention
• Cookies & similar technologies — see Section 7 below

Payment information:

Payment processing is handled by PayFast. FishHub does not directly store your credit card numbers, bank account details, or other sensitive payment information. PayFast's own privacy policy governs their handling of your payment data.

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with trusted service providers who help us operate FishHub:

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you have the following rights:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Deletion — request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements like billing records).
• Object — object to the processing of your data for direct marketing purposes.
• Withdraw consent — withdraw consent for optional data processing at any time.
• Complaint — lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator if you believe your privacy rights have been violated.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us. We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe (typically within 30 days).

We take the security of your data seriously. Our measures include:

• Encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
• Secure password hashing — we never store passwords in plain text
• Authentication via Firebase Auth with industry-standard security
• Regular security reviews and updates
• Limited access — only authorised personnel can access personal data

However, no system is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your FishHub account and to enable two-factor authentication when available.

FishHub uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

Essential cookies (always active):

• Authentication — keeping you logged in
• Preferences — remembering your settings
• Security — protecting against abuse

Analytics cookies (with your consent):

• Understanding how features are used so we can improve them
• Measuring platform performance

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can manage cookie preferences in your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may affect platform functionality.

FishHub is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are under 18, you may use FishHub only with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information.

FishHub is operated from South Africa. Your data is stored and processed using Firebase / Google Cloud infrastructure. If you access FishHub from outside South Africa, your data may be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions outside your own. We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place for any such transfers.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make meaningful changes, we will notify you via email and/or in-app notification at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of FishHub after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

We send the following types of email:

• Service emails (cannot be opted out) — billing confirmations, security alerts, critical account notices
• Alert emails (can be managed) — stock alerts, price-drop alerts based on your preferences
• Product updates (can be opted out) — new features, platform news

Every non-essential email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also manage your preferences from your account dashboard.
